Applying for Academic Accommodations (undergraduate or graduate)

If you suspect you qualify for academic accommodations in college or graduate school you should contact the academic dean’s office to obtain additional information. Most colleges at the university level have a Center for Students with Disabilities that will help guide you through this process.

Typically universities will require documentation showing that you participated in a recent educational or neuropsychological assessment. This evaluation may require specific tests and usually includes evaluations to include the following information: disability and providing recommendations. If you have never had a neuropsychological evaluation or do not have a recent assessment you will usually need to undergo neuropsychological/educational testing. Some colleges will allow provisional accommodations while students are being evaluated but to avoid a gap in services students should plan accordingly.

This article from understood.org provides helpful general information for incoming students . However, please contact your college’s Center for Disabilities to find out their specific requirements.
